Really! These Nintendo fans form a technocratic corps at the very heart of America's global financial empire :(

quote: Mid sentence? You punish good deeds Fred? I was joking, actually. The people at that other forum had apparently not read any more about RE4 as soon as the reviewer had made a crack about the GameCube, so yeah, I was sort of quoting them.
I read the quote: Did anyone read past this?
on the other forum and thought you might have been humerously recycling it, which I should have mentioned before, so anywawy I rescind to you. Sometimes on internet boards its not clear if someone is kidding or taking a jab even if with humour.
here are some fun facts that are about 2 years old from http://www.theesa.com/pressroom.html Top Ten Industry Facts 1/ U.S. computer and video game software sales grew eight percent in 2003 to $7 billion – a more than doubling of industry software sales since 1996. 2/ In 2003, more than 239 million computer and video games were sold, or almost two games for every household in America. 3/ Half of all Americans age six and older play computer and video games. 4/ The average age of a game player is 29 years old. 5/ The average game buyer is 36 years old. In 2003, 94 percent of computer game buyers and 84 percent of console game buyers were over the age of 18. 6/ Thirty-nine percent of game players are women. 7/ Eighty-five percent of all games sold in 2003 were rated "E" for everyone or "T" for teen. (For more information on ratings, please see www.esrb.org.) 8/ Ninety-two percent of parents surveyed who have children under the age of 18 say they monitor the content of the interactive games their children play, and 55 percent of parents say they play interactive games with their kids at least once a month. 9/ Forty-three percent of game players say they play games online one or more hours per week, up from thirty-seven percent in 2003 and thirty-one percent in 2002. 10/ More than half of game players expect to be playing as much or more 10 years from now as they do today.
My opinion which someone will probably be offended by is at least 1/4 of #6 were sisters or girlfriends of a male gamer who got them into it.

In other news, 94.82467036% of statistics that do not attribute a source or method for the gathering of said statistics are probably total bullshit. Also, 98.37468% of unattributed statistics that defy all conventional reasoning are definitely total bullshit.
I see that "The average age of a game player is 29 years old" quote thrown around a lot, but no one ever has ever really attributed it to any specific scientific poll. If memory serves me, wasn't it originally a poll taken among E3 attendees, 100% of which are over the age of 18? And wasn't the female gamers poll taken pretty much the same way?

quote: If, as DarkZero says this statistics are made up (or badly made), this one is the perfect example. If not, the parents who participated in this poll were too ashamed of saying "I use videogames as a way to get rid of my children during a couple of hours while I watch the NFL. I don't know what the hell they're playing, of course".
Well, those kinds of statistics are always false. Any question like, "Do you --complex euphemism for 'pay attention to your kids'--?" is just a flat out faulty question. That's like saying that, "According to a nationwide telephone poll of 1,582 American men, 100% of men are neither child molesters nor rapists." There are some questions that just can't be answered by polls, because you can't expect an honest answer and any margin of error that you add to the study would be totally arbitrary.
