Yazoo (Yaz in the US) is the name of a British synth pop duo from the 80's. One of them used to be in Duran Duran. They had such hits as "Don't Go" and "Situation." And yes I remember them more than I should..

Perhaps we've become desensitized to the fact that some of the other proper names in Final Fantasy VII include weather formations, an adjective for a person who is impolite, a city in Nevada, and the collective citizenry of the sovereign nation of Turkey. And let's not forget a certain Shinra President's animal companion, who was apparently named after a country without the benefit of electricity.
