You'd think without the paranoid puritanism of evangelical Christianity, Japan could avoid this brand of ridiculous, politically-motivated nonsense. <sigh> I'm not a fan of GTA either (the mission-based gameplay bores me to tears and I don't get any kind of high off of beating hookers), but Japan's government has far better things to do than this.
"Only two things are infinite the universe and human stupidity and I'm not sure about the former."
"Your denial is beneath you and thanks to the use of hallucinogenic drugs I see through you."
Theres a lot of contradictions in what I just read. The game has an 18+ rating, which by default should limit its sales to minors. Why would the government also need to prohibit sales when there's already a warning? Then again, this might be remniscent of sales in the US.
Anyway, I was wondering about GTA's popularity in Japan. GTA and Halo are very popular in the US, but are they well received in Japan?

There has been quite a lot of Columbine events in Japan in the recent years, so they're a little icky on all that violence, especially because the link with videogames is easier to draw in Japan.

It isn't enforced by law.

Now if only they could find a way to mix the free roaming aspects of Grand Theft Auto with hentai games to stalk and rape unsuspecting girls on trains...
