Anyone else ever caught one of these shows? They basically take popular videogame characters like Bloodrayne and whore them out to dance to popular music.

Anyone else think there is just something wrong about companies selling out their characters to MTV to make a buck yet if someone like you or me wants to mod a game for our own private entertainment, we can get in trouble like the guys over at Ninjahacker did?

Well, those are their Intellectual properties, and they can do whatever they want with them, there's nothing wrong with it.
Besides, only shitty characters (bloodrayne) dance to the MTV tune, right? it's not like we're going to see Simon Belmont, Mario or Ryu dancing to Eminem's latest crap...

That show is pure crap. I watched one with Leisure Suit Larry and it was just too hard to watch. I think they were using a Black Eyed Peas song in that one. I also watched another one where they were using the Sims or the Urbz. Either way, that too was painful.

The in-game graphics of some of those games are n't all that special to begin with and all they did was make them do EXTREMLY crappy "dances"

Are you referring to the video where Bloodrayne sings along to some Evanescence song? I saw a clip and it's annoying and poorly done--and the suckage is magnified because I don't like Evanescence.

But I do like Bloodrayne...

Characters from the Fight Club game doing songs by Lil John.

That's the easiest way to describe how bad this concept is.

How could this possibly still be around? I saw it last year and almost died from boredom. What's great is the VJ - the only real person on the show - is even more fake and robotic than the bad CG dancers.

I'm not againist the idea of using Fight Club characters in music videos but wouldn't it have made more sense to use a song by one of the muscians in Fight Club?

I know Fred Durst is a hidden character in the game, hasn't he made a shitty song lately they could dance to? What about the guy who played "Angel" (the 'third' in command in the movie) isn't he in a band? And wouldn't it just have been funny as hell to show the various scenes with Robert Paulson from the movie to "I Would Do Anything For Love"

.... and more on topic, I think it's sad 'the suits' think this sort of cross-promotion synergy works. It's probably sadder that in some cases it probably does.

(although, since Tecmo USA seems to have no respect for the DoA characters [I bet $45 US that North American commercial for DoA4 is a gamer getting turned on by the girls, rather then say enjoying playing the game] it would probably make sense to have the DoA girls sing and dance to that stupid ass "Doncha" song... but since the show never uses characters above the C-list I guess BloodRayne, some Urbz, and the Indian chick and the Stripper from Outlaw Volleyball are gonna be in that video)

Are you kidding? Our mass media system is becoming more integrated, and video games are no exception. Look at product placement and ads in video games. Look at how pop music is getting into games. Now, rest assured, a lot of games aren't going this route--but the mainstream games are. Look at a lot of EA's games (especially the racing games).

I've seen it once or twice when flipping by the channel. It's the worst conspect ever and it's as if these game companies sold there souls to satan. MTV is crap now anyways.

That's different...sorta

Product placements (the kind like in movies anyway) are just there to expose an audience to products they might wish to purchuse... seeing Wolverine drink a Dr.Pepper may remind fans how much they themselves would enjoy a crisp, cool, refreshing glass of it themselves or listening to the newest Limp Bizquit in the newest Tony Hawk game may remind fans to pick up the album the song is on.

However Video Mods is basically the suits thinking people are retarded.

All the characters act out of character (aside from just singing and dancing, sometimes they're playing intrusments and adjusting the lighting too) song choices are often illogical when you actually think about it (ex: They used the Jade Empire characters to do a Mod for that Christine Milian song... which you could see a vague connection if you think "oh 'Jade Empire' is about Asians and the original video is asian themed!" but when you think about it, what does a Kung-fu adventure game really have to do with cunnilingus?) and unlike a product placement where when it's good you don't notice it (in theory the songs put in a game should suit the mood, so Mario isn't running around to System of a Down or Dante cutting up demons to Hillary Duff and ads are placed in logical places in the background) this is a very blantant attempt at commericalize it's like "hey look at our graphics! you want the game!! Hey you like the song? I guess only a hip cool game would have its characters boogy to this song! So you buy the game now?!"

Which is not to say it doesn't worked, I didn't think Jade Warriors looked bad in the little clip they showed before the video and breifly considered trying it someday... I still haven't but I assume someone out there was all "Hey that game looks good... OH MAN they're dancing to the song about oral sex!!! I GOTS TO ADD THIS GAME TO MY GAMEFLY LIST!!!"

Obviously you've never seen that Chinese porn where the guy and the girl are doing Kung-fu sex... they do the Crouching Tiger flying in the air shit and everything.

I'm not making this up.

And yes, there is a scene where the girl is suspended in mid air with her legs around the guy's neck, the guy says some magical Kung-fu words, and unleashes a tongue lashing. It's priceless.

I don't know where the videoclip is, if I can find it I'll upload it.

any memorable act needs to be in your dvd collection... just search about chinese torture chamber or Man qing shi da ku xing... if I'm not wrong, this scene came from this movie, and it's the strange mixture of mexican soap opera, chinese air-fu, genital freaks and anything with doubtful taste...

You know, I knew when I wrote that line someone would tell me something exisited combining kung-fu with cunnilingus.... not that it makes the song more appropriate for 'Jade Empire' but I would have been shocked if the combination hadn't been made before, I mean with all the freaks on the internet I'm sure it's own subculture Something Awful is just waiting to use as a Link of the Day.
