Opinion of several people : after a few plays, they'll never touch it again. See KOF 2003, CFJ.
The game is worth 100 yen, but only if you're going to an arcade where 100 yen = 1 credit.

Also, Imoya quality : nearly everybody wrote at each and every test "change those crappy SE".
Of course, the final game has the exact same SE it had in the first test.

I even know one guy who thinks SvC is a superior game.

That reminds me of when Capcom was beta testing Steel Battalion in the US and all the testers complained "HEY!! This game's net code is shit! It's laggy as hell and totally unplayable" and Capcom said "It works great here in Japan so it must be your connections" and released it.

Also I'm sorry Iggy but the internet deathsquad is coming for you now :(

I'm hoping there's a code for the game that will let you have two of the same character on the same team so my dream of seeing Iori & Iori vs Iori & Iori can finally be realized.

But, seriously, what has SNKP been doing with this game for so long? If these intial reports are to be believed it sounds as if they spent a great deal of time to turn out an uninspired game. Here's to hoping the new SS game is at least fun to play.

OT, I know, but...that's interesting. I'm not surprised, but where'd you hear that?

My Steel Battalion sticks are sadly collecting dust in their box. I take them out occasionally to wow friends, but the thrill is gone...

That's quite different from what Beelze said at NG.com... But I know better than to listen to him.

Maybe there's a secret code that magically turns the game into a good one ?... Or not.

It's lame how everyone picks KoF characters the most... But it's also lame how this game is so similar to KoF. It could have been something much more different and fresh...
Looks like SNKP can do nothing but (bad) KoF-like games... RotD, Matrimelee and SS5/S have all been made by other "sub" companies, not SNKP themselves...

OK, Iggy says "the opinion of several people" and the SE are bad and everyone's like, "I knew this was gonna be crap." or "It's a shame this game is so crappy."

I'm not saying the game is any good, I don't know, but the way that people's opinions are so easily swayed is ridiculous. I'm sure some of you read positive beta reports (and surely the game hasn't changed for the worse...much...if at all) and thought the same game sounded quite promising.

Plus, I thinks everybody here knows what I was thinking of the game month before the release, so you should have guessed I only quoted the negative comments (and, well, I tend to hang out with people who have the same tastes as I do, so they say things I like to hear, like the SvC comment).

On the other hand, the only positive comments I saw were from rabbid Imoya fanatics who crossed the Goldwind Point at the speed of light, so it wasn't that big of a dilemna to overlook their impressions.

Too bad I lost my AA of STOP IMOYA NOW.

OK, OK, I confess : the only point of this thread was to use my Masumi AA and make yet another Maya joke.

It's not THAT bad... I actually enjoyed my time testing it!

Of course, the KOF characters are the most familiar to Japanse players, and I don't usually see people who 'experiment' around here. =) Usually if you experiment that means your gonna get your ass handed to you by the Iori/Kyo player that's been playing KOF forever....so people would rather pick characters that they feel like they might win with.

I'll try to hit the arcades next week to play it, but this week is shot, I have an interview tomorrow and all that jazz.

The sound effects aren't that bad. =P They grew on me a lot. This is a much better effort than SNKvsCapcom... much much better!

I was never crazy about their roster choices for this game (I find the roster choices for KOF XI much more braver and interesting, I wished they would of used that line of thinking for NGBC) for the most part but I was pretty happy Shermie was in it and that was enough for me. Not that rosters really matter that much to me, depends on the gameplay and two player competition more than anything. I'm not much for banking too heavily on other's online opinions, hopefully this game will reach the arcades in the US and we'll have a chance to check it out for ourselves.

Well for the game I'll try it to make my final opinion on it.

but still SNK's lazyness those yaer is impresive. I really wish that they stop those stupid project like KOF MI2 and MS 3D, and put more money and work in 1 game.

1 SNK game by yaer is enough for me, if it's well done.

Eh as a rule I generally ignore reviews on the internet and reserve my judgement of a game until I play it. To me it sounds like people that expected to be bad or wanted the game to be bad have convinced themselves that it is...while the people that were optimistic of the game seem to come back rather pleased. One of my favorite Arcades should be getting the game soon so if it turns out to be mediocre or bad, at least there are like 4 or 5 other games coming out later the year that look promising. So nothing lost if you ask me.

P.S. I want to play Slash, SST and HnK NOW!!

Shin

> Eh as a rule I generally ignore reviews on the internet and reserve my judgement of a game until I play it.

Hmmm. I'll take into consideration the opinions of others whose opinion I value, but generally reserv final judgment for myself. That said... well maybe it's because I haven't been paying much attention, but isn't this a bit early to bashing the game? True, the game has been beta testing for what seems like 19862749209128 years now, and I know the engine has the taint of "SvC2" all over it, but at least wait until the other characters get some play testing in before you write the whole thing off. The sound effects do sound rather weak though, judging from the vids from the official site.

BUt yeah: It would be a shame for the game to be testing all this time and turn out to be mediocre. It can't *possibly* be worse than SvC though. And besides, there's still KoFXI and SS Tenka to look forward to.

> P.S. I want to play Slash, SST and HnK NOW!!

SS Tenka all the way for me. HnK doesn't exist right now to me. I'd get more excited about Slash if I thought I could play it any time soon and against other people who cared (true, I'm not likely to play SS Tenka any time soone either, but that's a game that I'll probably want to play no matter how much time passes since its release).

The sound effects complaint is sort of funny given most of the time you can't hear jack in Arcades.

Begin off topic mode.

Professor, did you by any chance try out "Spectral vs. Generation" before you got the flu (or Komike virus if Zepy says that it does exist)? I know that from what I have heard, it sounds mediocre. I'd still give it a shot though.

End off topic mode.

I find it surprising that the game would be released by now. (I personally thought that the game would be released next month, which Imoya should have done.) I find it surprising also that the new attractions of the game, Yuki and Ai, didn't make it in the top 10 in terms of character selection. The sound effects from the videos I have seen are mediocre at best.

I don't remember if I heard it here, but I don't want to play another "Chaos". While I like how a good amount of my favorite characters are in here, you'd figure the game would have done more here in the roster (as I would have expected someone like Juzou). Supers done according by level may sound fresh until you realize that the "Real Bout" games have done this already.

I know this sounds cliché, but I might as well say it anyway. I know I will play the game. I just don't know if I'll enjoy the experience.

Oh. My first three pairings? Mai and Hotaru, Terry and Rock, and Yuki and Ai in that order.

It's the command for "Another Double Assault".

>Bata kun
I saw a couple of match vids, and it looks better than what people give it credit for, though it's nothing to rave about either. I'd probably play it once in a while if there was one down here. The song in the game is... a mismatch to say the least.

There's a championship video under events, if you want to see.

Not to mention that it's ALWAYS THE SAME SONG that plays in the final round. You'd think they'd only do it for certain stages or certain matchups, but nope. Every time. It's pretty bad.

Well, I'd figure that with a lot of mistakes, they would have used one more month to fix them. From the character percentages, this feels like an excuse for not making a "KoF 2004", not a dream game fans come to expect. To some, the percentages shouldn't be surprising, but I feel that the game's discouraging.

I wanted this to be a quite interesting game. At the end of the day, it's a "Chaos II". Then again, I guess I'm jumping way ahead of myself. If I do get to try it, I hope it's soon because I want to get these suspicious feelings out of the way.

I would argue that with the unusually long beta test time, another month wouldn't make much difference. Also, is the game plagued with glitches, or do people just dislike it? If it has a number of irritating balance/glitch issues, then I could see that another month would help. However, if people just don't like the SE or the way it plays, then that's a much larger issue.

I'm all for extended betas that ensure the best product, but in this case, I think it caused people to lose interest in the game. Excitement for the game has dwindled in the months since it was announced, and when the game actually had fewer characters and features, people were more interested. Now, I think people are deciding that it wasn't worth the wait.

It doesn't matter though. SS3 and FF3 were the worst games in their respective series and yet I got plenty of enjoyment out of them. I played SvC Chaos even though I hated it like everyone else. If the fact remains that the game does now and forever exist, I will play it for no reason whatsoever. Just like I play that piece of crap Target Terror Gold thing.

The only thing I really didn't like about SVC was the poor balance. I don't like feeling guilty for using a certain character and I don't like feeling short-changed by getting beat by a certain character.

I'll play any 2D fighting game just because it's a fighting game as long as it's reasonably decent, and I'll probably think Nejibako is at least reasonably decent. If it's not full of obviously broken characters and systems, then it's good enough for me.

In mostly related news, I made fun of NeoWave for quite a while, but actually have a pretty good time playing it with friends, even if it has some (KOF characteristic) stupid infinites.

About the balance, it seems pretty good so far.
There are maybe 7 or 8 characters about whom people say "he/she is too strong", and none yet "he is useless". Maybe Chonshu ? It's still too early to say.

Okay, Returning to the subject of NoGood Battle Coliseum.
I've got the chance to play it today, and while I can't make my conclusion until I play it at a few more places to see if it's an issue at my local arcade...

By God, that game has a serious problem in its single player mode.

Now, again, let me write beforehand that I haven't had the energy to go beyond my local arcade thanks to my flu. So there may be different settings according to stores.

The game gives 300 counts to play though all the matches. That's like, 5 minutes. I think there's about 9 stages in the game? I haven't been able to check since I can't manage to go beyond the 7th stage or so without a time up. It feels very much like a survival mode, including the point that your life doesn't fully recover between matches. It doesn't let you stall for a time over to play a long game. If you do that, Mizuchi/OrochiClone will pop out. In a way, he almost feels like that skeletal ghost that appeared in Bubble Bobble if you couldn't clear a stage in quick enough time.

It shouldn't be a problem at popular arcades where there's never a minute without someone challenging you. But practicing new characters or just hoping for a relaxed game with a sip of coffee, it's not really enjoyable.

[edit] And yes, I've played SvG. Looks good when it's featured in still shots, but when it's actually in motion..

Whoa... not sure if any of that is necessarily bad(it does sound bad though) but it definitly seems different then what we're used to and would take some learning to get accustomed to it. I'd like to try it. That alone is worth my purchase of this game.

Well here's what I think. Gameplay wise nothing has changed since the positive loke test reports apparently. And the presentation (redrawn Iori sprite, music, backgrounds, art, sound effects...) is solid. Roster balance appears to be good so far. SNKP fixed winning conditions, GCFS, hitbox detection & double assault. And the gameplay was all I cared about since the beginning anyways. So now all I have to do is learn the game myself and see if it withstands the test of time.

This game and Neowave seem to use the same graphic engine. I hate the way the sprites look...I don't know if it is because of some filter, or how the sprite scaling is calculated, but it looks really gross and blurry, like when you play games on an emulator and it gets that fuzzy look from being scaled up.
