here.

72.3% want a PS3
21.9% want a Revolution
5.8% want a X Box 360
21.5% don't want any.

On the other hand, the 360's potential fanbase is growing at an amazing rate, since they were only 2% in July to want one.

But this is potential demand in Japan-- the US market has already solidified a position fotr the X360. Sure, I think there's a big demand for PS3 here, but really X360 will have almost as much demand as a PS3, if not equal demand. Is a new console war brewing?

Why is it Microsoft has had such a hard time catching up to Sony yet most of Japan quickly abandoned Nintendo allegiance for Sony when the PSX came out? Its not like the Playstation's software library was even that great in its early run.

This group is actually waiting for the Infinium Phantom. But, really, isn't it a little early to decide on a next-gen console? Personally I know I'm not going to an opinion one way or the other about the Revolution until I at least see a controller.

Because it isn't Japanese, it's simple.

And for an anime fan, the X-Box library has been always horrendous.

Interesting.
Do they give any info on the population that was surveyed? I guess it is representative of the industries regular buyers.

Microsoft is making efforts to reach the japanese market.
They really need to drop the focus on sports games and north american actioners if they want to achieve that. More RPGs (X-box exclusive; if not, it's worth nothing) and most of all more japanese developers endorsing the system will help them.

Well I always figured it was that but I don't like to sound like an American nationalist pointing out Japanese nationalism.

The survey is done every two month or so.
It's just buzz, and mindless fun.

Microsoft doesn't catch up in Japan because they simply don't know how to handle the market, plain and simple. It's not only a question of nationalism : Microsoft did a terrible job with the console in Japan, and the few people who actually wanted to give MS a chance there, were slapped in the face.
Now they have 3 problems to face : they are not japanese, they don't understand anything to the japanese market AND they sell the sequel to a terrible product.

Indeed.
I noticed that in the poll results it says:
- Nintendo
- Sony Computer Entertainment
- (Kanji for USA) Microsoft
- nope

I wonder if that's the text from the original poll.
I see biased people...

But if the power of the DOA girls in swimsuits can't sell X-Boxes in Japan would the never-ending stream of nonsense from Bandai actually help?

Well MS just needs to buy Bandai, Tommy, FFs, DQs, MGS...and DOA helped a lot I think.

i always think it's funny when people think xbox 1's failure in japan is due to japanese nationalism. i guess that same nationalism is the reason for ms window's failure in japan too, right? also, mcdonalds, starbucks, coca cola, etc., etc.

xbox 1's release in japan was shitty. the original machines had serious problems with disc scratching and ms customer support pretty much said fuck you to everyone who complained. it also had almost no release games and was heavy on fps'es (which arent as popular in japan). considering how badly ms handled the xbox 1 in japan, im surprised even 5% of consumers are interested in xbox 2.

it's like blaming the failure of the saturn in america on nationalism. i loved the saturn, but anyone with a brain can tell you that sega didnt handle that one well.
