An update on the console version of Higurashi has been announced at AlcheMatsuri 2006. The most significant change is that the consumer version will allow the player to make choices in the game, and these choices will affect the ending. The original didn't allow choices. The character art is done by another artist called Rato. So that newcomers won't complain about the marshmallow hands.
Square-enix has also started a novel writing competition for Higurashi with a total prize money of 1,000,000 yen. Winners will have their story published in a book in october and have a chance of having their story produced into a drama CD.
Man I thought the higurashi craze was going to die out after the answers were out, but it's still going strong!?

why does this have anything at all to do with the squenix? are they publishing the console version or something?
