Namco recently announced Ridge Racer 7 for the PS3 (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/702/702300p1.html)...and now I'm wondering about the other arcade racing powerhouse: Sega. I'm wondering if Sega is getting away from Arcade racing. Yes, I know Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast comes out next week (and I am getting it), and I know Sega Rally 2006 came out not too long ago in Japan (no US release has been announced). But other than that, I haven't seen any new Sega arcade racers...it's been 2 years since Outrun2 SP arcase... and almost 8 since Daytona 2 was released. I fear Sega Racing is dead...

What?! A new Sega Rally game is out? Where? How? Screenshots? Info? Please!
Update: I checked some SR screenshots, doesn`t look very impressive; maybe I should see it in motion.

All racing games were dead for me once I learned how to drive a car. I've never understood the joy of racing games. I'd rather crash bumper boats or even go carts than play a racing game. Are racing games even popular in asia? When I was in Hong Kong awhile ago I went to quite a few arcades and saw almost no racing games. There was this cool nose picking game though...

If it wasn't for Virtua Fighter 5, I'd wonder if Sega was dead.
Combine that with decreased arcade interest in general, and I think that explains the situation. It seems like the only racing games people play are the Initial D ones. Well, that's all I see.

But the Initial D arcade games were made by Sega weren't they? So I guess Sega arcade racing isn't dead.

Yeah, but not Maximum Tune 2, which is the only recent one, to my knowledge.
I don't know. I don't know anything abour racing games OR Initial D. Actually, I don't know if Wangan Midnight MT is even Initial D related, though it has the same artist and it's about cars...so if it isn't...that's kinda sad.

Well whatever you know, I know even less so I suppose I can't say much. I didn't even know they'd stopped making Initial D games since every time I looked at those things there was a new subtitle.

I forgot about Initial D... I never liked the series.
