The 2nd player port on my ps2 is busted, and fixing it will be expensive, and I figured out that I could save some money if I just bought a multitap and plug it into the 1st player port. But do all games support the multitap? Or does it only work for those 2+ player games?

Although I haven't tried every 2-player game out there, all the ones I have tried do not recognise the second/third/fourth plug on the multitap unless the game specifically says it has multitap support. Same for memory card slots.
However, all the games will detect a controller or memory card plugged into the first spot as if it were plugged straight into the Player 1 plug of the machine.
