Wow, judging from its artwork it sure does not look like a fighting game...
Also, for those who care about this series, Konami has announced that Gensô Suikoden VI is on the works. No system confirmed yet, but I think we can bet our money for PS3. Oh, the team seems to be the same as GenSui V (so is the producer), which may not be a bad thing.

By the way. Update the Battle Fantasia post. It's confirmed to be a "2D taisen kakutou" game. And the "RPG elements" are just for the game theme and chara design, it seems. A bit more like War-Zard than Shadow over Mystara.
Also, Act Cadenza Ver. B's site preopen and test announced.
Edit: And the non-japanese Metal Slug Anthology also for the PS2 including the Japanese Metal Slug 6 (or are they re-porting the game? Hardly).

Thirded. This artwork looks quite childish (but appealing to me at the same time), so I'm actually curious about where this game is going... this kind of designs look quite different from what we are used to see in any fighting game (besides moeish ones such as Queen of Hearts and Melties). It's hard to beleive this will end up being either a beat'em up or a vs game...

So Battle Fantasia is only "2D" in the mechanics, and not too much indeed. Graphics are 3D. 12 characters and 5 buttons, but who cares. First pics and vids here. Kobayan has more impressions and the scans from Arcadia Magazine featuring Arcana Hearts. To compensate the bad news.

Well, the looks please me. Not that I were waiting for something like this (I also thought it was a standard 2D fighting game rather than a "rumblefishy" one), but it looks as a great improvement in this area, Perhaps this is becomes the only way to get 2D fighters in the near future...

These are two different statements. Yes, it has some neat character designs... no it does not look cool.
These kinds of games really piss me off, because they're helping kill the already dying 2D fighter market. They make crap (and it doesn't have to be 3D/2D like this...crappy 2D works too), nobody likes it, and then it looks like nobody likes 2D fighters.

In some odd way this game reminds me of the initial, abandoned attempt at GG1 when the characters were 3D. I wonder why they decided what wouldn't work then would work now?
Judging from the videos that feature a catgirl waitress and a boy in shorts it seems like Arc isn't moving too far from the character types they've used in the past. But that rabbit thing looks like it could be trouble. I'm not sure I've ever seen such a short character ever work well in a fighting game.
Might be a sequel to FF12 after all, as many of the same characters and places will be part of this game. It appears summons will be a key part of this game as well.

After finishing FFXII I was glad it was over. I wanted to love it so much...and I did for much of the game, but by the end, I can't imagine how anyone can say that it didn't fall apart both in terms of system and plot.
However, I'm eager for a sequel, because although they developed very poorly in the game itself, I'm still interested in the characters.
I hope the Tactics Advance artist does the art, as the new designs seem to be a bit like his style.

It depends what you compare them with. If you compare them with any mainstream videogame RPG including any past FF, FF12's are better. Compared to Joseph Conrad's Nostromo, indeed, the plot is not as good and the system totally sucks.

I remember that back then we were talking about how a "guys edition" would be resolved. Little I thought that I'd finally see this. It's funny that the project has had such a good reception that it already has 2 sequels and 2 spin-offs!!! Go! Go! Days of Memories!!!
...but this causes me mixed thoughts.
On the one side, I like the general art for this game. I'd really like to try it (as well as the rest of this saga's titles). The shots of Kyo crying under the rain and Iori sitting on grass while sunset are really nice and I can see the "effort" put to really recreate the "dating sim" environment.
While on the other, I'm really perplexed by the otaku~ish load of games released (or announced) by SNK recently. It's like they've begun to experiment at their full what they've never even approached before. I'm very glad, though, really. Seeing them getting across their "We are a company which mainly deals with fighting games" label after all this time is really striking.

I wish some other companies realised that...
I think this approach to doujin gaming is somehow a reflection of an interesting tendecy from the audience. A witty move, in my opinion.
Doujin games are generally milked by interesting ideas and twists to draw the attention of the audience and references to phenomenons in common with the them for stablishing a complicity with the player.
Basically the point is that there is a switch in the set of values, and detecting that is symptomatic of a good feedback with the audience.
I'm glad
