More like an orgy between an iPod, a laptop, a web browser, and a cell phone.

That description still fits Japanese cell phones.

I wonder if it'll be big in Japan at all? US cell phones seem hilariously behind-the-times (not that you really need the technological monstrosities, but things that were standard in Japan in 2001 are somehow a big deal in the US now it seems).

Yeah thats how it goes. Japan>World>US. US provider's need for absolute control over everything hasn't helped. But that gap's been closing pretty fast.

Its a shame that the iphone a device that clearly needs 3G yet is 2G in the US. While definitely being 3G when released in Europe. Even though AT&T has a 3G network ready for a breakout device like the iphone.

Its not for me. Not that I wouldn't mind the full blow internet in my pocket. Its just that I'm not willing to pay for it: the phone, the plan, and yrly. comit).
