It's nice to see SNK evolving as a company and stop relying so heavily in their KOF saga.
I mean, SNK has created an interesting universe, with all of their Neo·Geo games, but DokiDoki marks a natural step for them, moving on and exploring new concepts.
KOF has some die-hard fans, but, as a videogame consumer, I appreciate SNK not relying on KOF, SS, whatever saga of them and ascertaining new genres, with a radically different approach to the market.
Let me clarify, it's not that I would mind touching Vanessa with the stylus. And Days of Memories was definetely appealing, but for someone like me, who has a pretty heavy knowledge on SNK. I take that for someone with little knowledge on SNK, getting to date a meganekko B.Jenet is not as half as interesting as it may be for me.
However, SNK seems to be set on the 'renew of die' mode. And I'm glad DokiDoki sold good. And I really don't know which path are they following from now on, if they will diverge from 2D fighing games (like Capcom has done), if DokiDoki is represantative or not, time will tell, but definetely I'm curious to know about future releases from SNK.
And I hope they are as surprising and interesting as DokiDoki has been.
But I still want to quench your thirst. Because I am the one that put you into the desert.

True that, in comparison with Capcom, a little step like Doki Doki Majo Shinpan pales in front of other Capcom projects like, per say, what was Resident Evil on its release. Nonetheless, I find it representative of a new expansion attitude, which I celebrate.
Also, I take advantage of this post to change the title of the subject, in order to let other users who may be interested know on the CG set.

quote: Although Capcom "distanced themselves from fighters" by not making any more, they've always been a company with a large number of titles in a large number of genres. Sure, they're "famous" for their fighters, but it would be silly to say that they "branched out" from fighters at any point. There's really no comparing them to SNK on that level.
It's interesting that you note that. However, I would dare to say that the peak of Capcom's fame was undoubtedly Street Fighter II, despite the wide range of products they offered, and it entailed a turning point for the company.
I agree it is simplistic to reduce Capcom to their contribution to the fighting games genre and analyze them from that point onwards, leaving behind all its background. However, as the big hit that SF2 supposed, the perception of Capcom for videogame consumers shifted to a 2D-fighters centered one.
At one point, this success itself became a label which Capcom themselves had to struggle to remove (that is to say, Capcom vindicating that they can create more relevant titles for the videogame industry than 'SF4'), and so nowadays we have games from Capcom like, per say, Viewtiful Joe, Devil May Cry or Gyakunten Saiban and nobody links Capcom to fighting games anymore.
In my opinion, SNK did it the other way round, and centered themselves in the niché universe they created, thus making the audience heavily link any new SNK announcement to the fighting game scene.
That's why I appreciate the warm reception given by the audience to Doki Doki Majo Shinpan, as it is, despite being a rather cheesy one, a way out for SNK to elude the pre-stablished clichés on their products and to break with the falling tendency of the company. There's definetely potential in that company to expect more from them that 'KOF Regulation A' or KOF98's remake.
...wow, I really have too much spare time at my workplace... (-_-)

I agree with your assessment of SNK, and while I don't necessarily agree with your assessment of Capcom (Rockman plays a big part of this), I think you've made a good point, and it's definitely a valid way to look at things.
After all, (much to my annoyance) I think we still see more SF/Vampire merchandise than anything else.
Red Falcon Ah, speaking of "that" thread...
I wanted to continue the discussion, but for some unknown, mysterious reason my browser crashed every time I opened the thread. I wasn't trying to instigate anything, I just wanted to understand why people weren't understanding each other.
I was going to ask you to clarify something, but for the most part, I certainly agreed with you. Regardless, I can't word things properly without referencing an older post, and that's no longer an option. I also don't want to drag the discussion elsewhere, but I did want to reply on some level, just so it wouldn't seem like I was trying to punk you or disregard what you said.
