I have heard complaints from some fans that the series needed to return to its roots but I'm not sure if this is quite what they were referring to. Basara 2 Heroes will have (ugly) anime sequences. Only some old characters will have new scenarios, 2P mode, and for a reason, when you will load your Basara 2 save, everything will be available in Heroes except the normal items (the character specific items will). Matsunaga is still not playable.

Strange, and not exciting to say the least.

KOF 98 UM finally has a release date : 11/29 (same as Basara 2 Heroes, by the way). And another strange rumour : the game would have a Capcom guest...? I guess a Guile cameo makes sense, since he was in 94 after all.
We'll see whether this is a fake or not in a few hours, with the scans.

Actually I was referring to that group of Tekken players who are too stupid to be able to spell/pronounce/comprehend the name Hwoarang and ended up referring to him as "Bob." I seriously doubt this new character's name is a coincidence.

- All the NPC characters from 2 are now PC (even Ieyasu). Not sure those that are not on the site have a storymode, though.
- versus mode
- Fight 1 vs 1 in 3 rounds
- A Mogura hitting game (like the thing with hammers and moles) several statues appear on the field, and the winner is the one who slapped the most
- A battle royale mixed with a sort of "capture the flag" mode
- A mode where each player is trapped in a room filled with enemies, and the more you kill, the stronger your opponent's enemies become (like a VS Tetris)

Oh, also.

It's amazing what will sell me on a game. While the thought of being able to play as that cry-baby Oichi was tempting I wasn't fully sold on Basara Heroes until Iggy helpfully provided a full list of what is included. Likewise, while UM is interesting in a nostalgic, slightly sad way the news that SNK decided that a Capcom character is a better addition than any character SNK has championed in the past nine years has really revived my interest in this game.

Finally, screens showing Bob being all that he can be gives me hope for the future of fighting games.

There's a lot of speculation that Bob will be the new Mokujin. A lot of signs seem to support it, such as him being a "martial arts master," the lack of Mokujin in the character roster, and the fact that most of his moves in that scan seem to be from other characters.

In more positive news, his second outfit appears to have him wearing a hawaiian shirt. Clearly Namco is taunting us.

Apart from Guile I remember Ryu, Zangief, Gouki, Balrog/Bison, Vega/Balrog and Fei Long/Bruce Lee, as well as a statue that looked like Reiji Oyama from the Power Instinct/Goketsuji Ichizoku series which might have been an alternate look for Ken, and some female.

Someone from SvC seems likely, but I doubt Gouki is it - KoF98 had 2 levels of DMs for everyone, so unless they're changing that due to Geese's Deadly Rave I don't see them downgrading the ShunGokuSatsu. Same applies to Ryu, only over the Shin Shoryuken. This is bound to be a factor for whatever choice they make...

I figure it's either Dan or Violent Ken from SvC, since they both have a few SNK elements to them - Dan's being well-known, and Ken's being the "Orochification" in that game...

Then again, they said "Capcom", not "Street Fighter", right?...

I do wonder about something - the original SNK-Capcom agreement involved 2 fighting games from each company, right? And least that seems to have been the explanation for 1 NGPC and 1 NeoGeo game by SNK, and the 2 1/2 CvS games by Capcom (the 1/2 being CvS Pro), which apparently let SNK get away with 3 crossover card games.

Now this comes up, and I wonder if its to make things even from the CvS Pro factor, or if there's a new agreement between the companies which could lead to future joint projects...

Apart from Guile I remember Ryu, Zangief, Gouki, Balrog/Bison, Vega/Balrog and Fei Long/Bruce Lee, as well as a statue that looked like Reiji Oyama from the Power Instinct/Goketsuji Ichizoku series which might have been an alternate look for Ken, and some female.

Someone from SvC seems likely, but I doubt Gouki is it - KoF98 had 2 levels of DMs for everyone, so unless they're changing that due to Geese's Deadly Rave I don't see them downgrading the ShunGokuSatsu. Same applies to Ryu, only over the Shin Shoryuken. This is bound to be a factor for whatever choice they make...

I figure it's either Dan or Violent Ken from SvC, since they both have a few SNK elements to them - Dan's being well-known, and Ken's being the "Orochification" in that game...

Then again, they said "Capcom", not "Street Fighter", right?...

My guess would still lead me to guess Dan. The whole history that he represents, plus would give another reason for Mr. Karate/Oyaji-related silliness once more.

Of course, if they just wanted another uber-boss to contend with the likes of Orochi and Goenitz, then maybe that might be an excuse for Red Arremer or Demitri to come about again.

Also, Basara Heroes will only have a story mode for Kojiro/Nagamasa/Oichi and an alternate storyline for 5 "popular characters" (Ide/Yukimura/Aniki... wünderbar).

Hey it happens lol! I was secretly hoping it was Dante anyway despite that not being logical, or maybe Okami since she already beat Orochi in her game. Celestial brush is no joke ha ha! Oh well back to playing SVC Card Fighters on the DS now that SNKP sent me a replacement cart where a bunch of Capcom and SNKP characters chill as cards. ^_^

Too bad about no updates on KOF XII. Looking forward to the new sprites for everybody they've been promissing.

I've heard that one, but it doesn't seem likely. If they were to give him his own moveset made up of other moves, why would they give him Lili's uf+4, of all kicks? If he was just doing it randomly I could understand, but if they intentially gave it to him that makes no sense.

Based on Lee's moves? Please elaborate. The special moves you're referring to pop up in nearly every fighting game with characters that use kung fu.

Personally, I'm looking real forward to KOF98UM.

But the thing that caught my eye the most in this week's Famitu was the DS sequel to Legend of Kage. I still remember how stunned I was to see a game that scrolled so high in the air when you jumped. Kinda like MSH, except this was released in 1986.

Thanks for the info! I'll be curious to see how this series gets updated for not only a new console but a new century. Hopefully the tiny shuriken you had to deal with in the original arcade game won't be included on the equally small DS screens.

I never played Legend of Kage for long, but I did play through Demon Sword repeatedly on the NES. I'm hoping it's more than just a visual update.

The only thing I remember about Legend of Kage was the incredibly small cabinet of the arcade version. And the fact I couldn't tell if the main character was a guy or a girl, which to this day I'm still not sure about.

The pictures worked for me, but for some reason when I've linked to imagevenue, I get people saying "Uhh that's some hot girl and guy, not game related at all.."

It's weird and only Imagevenue does this.

Game looks sweet though.
