Oh, thanks, I hadn't seen the last new characters of Arcana Heart 2. Besides the colour of Dorothy's shoes and the misspelled "de" Conti, I really like the girls... The new arcanas look nice and all, but I'm afraid that with so many possibilities, some totally broken combinations stay unnoticed before the release... Oh, well. If they make a Full version afterwards, it's no big deal.
And of course, the biggest concern will be : will the centers actually buy the game, after the travesty of the FULL version, especially with so many other games coming ? I would hate it if it ended up being The Rumble Fish 2 all over again.

The word on the street right now is, the game is too balanced, smooth and glitch free... Let's try something insanely unbalanced, broken, glitchy like BlazBlue, Arcana Heart 2 and Street Fighter 4... Good game will never get popular, this something Capcom has to change about this game. You know, create something close to Yun/Chunli in SF33, OSagat/Claw in SF2X, Iroi/Chizuru/Daimon in KOF98, Mishimas in Tekken, Eddie/Slayer/Testement in GGAC. That's the ultimate secret of making a game popular my friend... Learn Capcom learn!

Well, I'll believe it when I see it, but hearing that it's balanced at least on some level is very reassuring. I think you're tragically right about people craving bad balance, though...or at least some easy way to dominate. Every time I go to an arcade, all I see are people using a small set of characters and abusing a small set of moves. It's sickening.
The opening isn't great, but it beats the hell out of the last one.

Well, I think that the overall thing was that Capom wanted ASW to make this game as balanced as possible, so that the actual BASARA fans will be more inclined to play it. If it was going to be another HnK, the hardcore gamers might end up liking it more, but it would come at the expense of attracting a wider variety of fans, and thus wouldn't do much to make Capcom and ASW money.
That said, I think that this game is going to be fine. If it is indeed more balanced, that might do more to give the game some longevity, as well as, again, attract more gamers to it. For instance, games like Melty Blood did better overall because it was a game that was both based on a license that people loved, as well as being a predominantly "balanced" product (most of the time). If BASARA can do that on its own end, it will be a success.

quote: The video is really good (thoug not in quality) but I'm not excited about Basara license at all. I mean, it's Capcom, they have a lot better stuff than this series to lend to AKSYS and make a good fighting game. I really hope AKSYS will riceve more attention by Capcom to make 2D fighters. I know the animation should have done better, but the last 2 GG games were very good gameplay-wise, and I don't complain the quality of AKSYS products anymore.
Well, two things:
For one, it's Arc Systems Works who's making this game. AkSys is the company who takes the time to localize games. It's easy to get 'em confused, I'll grant you...
For two...the BASARA license was utilized because it was a sound decision, for more than one reason. Main one being? It's no secret that the brand is one of Capcom's newest and yet VERY popular brands in Japan, to the point that only a veritable powerhouse series, like Monster Hunter, clearly outweighs it in importance on Capcom's "profitability scale".
So, in other words, it's a game made by a prominent fighting game developer, for the Japanese fans that adore the franchise and its characters. I highly doubt that the game will ever come over here, seeing how Devil Kings tanked so badly, but again, this was something that ASW and Capcom wanted to have done. Street Fighter 4 is going to be the thing for Americans.

No. Basara is an OK license, but nothing like a DMC, Onimusha, MH, Bio Hazard or even the latest Rockman spinoffs. It's maybe as profitable as Full House Kiss, and of course better than any Clover licenses, but, oh well. It is an intermediate series (the budget for each title shows it) and it doesn't exist outside Japan.

Well, I look at it this way: Starting today, (if not earlier, haven't been keeping track) Capcom JP's main site has officially given the BASARA series its own portal, showcasing that it's a series of importance to them that they look to be investing in for the long haul.
Then there's also the notion that the PS2 port of the game will basically get the "KOEI Musou LE" treatment as well. The Special Edition of the game will include the OST, character cards and deluxe packaging deal, for 8390 yen.
So the series' may never get released out of Nihongo-land ever again. By the looks of things, Capcom JP seemingly could care less, because the series has enough of a following in Japan, that they can afford to wash their hands of trying to make heads or tails of the matter regarding "Devil Kings".
Hell, recent BASARA offerings have been, overall, selling better in Japan alone, than traditional Rockman games (re: Zero and ZX) have been doing in the same region of the world. And for both series to basically get the same type of development cycle and monetary expenditure, yet Rockman is the clear-cut "veteran" franchise with a significantly larger fanbase, I would think that's pretty good, on BASARA's behalf.
quote: I thought so too, since the first week of sales were pretty low, yet in their latest Financial Quarter PR, Capcom stated they were "satisfied" with the final sales of the Wii version. However, who knows what they expected in the first place.
I think it goes without saying that the Wii is going to be the new turf for the BASARA series...eventually. If Capcom could put friggin' Monster Hunter on the Wii, there's little to suggest why they'd do anything different for BASARA, which I will clearly admit is a less important commodity than MH.
But I guess the big thing is, that as long as the PS2 is available, and Capcom keeps supporting it, the transition is going to be slower, and people will be less incited to transfer over to the Wii. Ideally, the upcoming SB3 would be Wii-exclusive, and would do more to enforce this transition. But Capcom, being Capcom, may still decide to capitalize on the PS2, until it coughs its last breath some time in 2009/2010. In which case, we might be prone to having a few more "PS2/Wii" simul-releases in the future...
