I love this game. Does anyone else know about any other classic Shmups for dos?
Also they remixed Bill Clinton's voice for the item powerup menu.
off-topic: Has anyone else seen how cheap the saturn usb pads are on ebay right now?
The commonly cited DOS favourites for shoot'em-ups are Tyrian and Raptor. I can't disagree, really. Some of the ones which were significant to me were Overkill and Galactix (though Galactix was Space Invaders-esque in that you could only move left and right). One of my friends way back in the day was in love with Traffic Department 2192, which I have to say is one of the cooler names for a shooting game. To me it always looked kind of like Solar Winds, but Solar Winds wasn't that much fun.
What's really quite interesting is that a whole bunch of the well-known DOS era shooting games feature an almost RPG-esque upgrading system (like in Raptor and Tyrian).
A somewhat more recent game that is squarely in the Tyrian style is Jets 'n Guns, though I don't like how it looks nearly as much as Raptor or Tyrian.

Really liked Raptor back in the day. I love the Ega/Vga graphic style like old duke nukem with pc speaker.
Another shmup for pc that is fun is Space Phallus with it's c64 style graphics and sound. Its pretty bizarre tho.
Also holy crap did anyone know you could run netflix on a ps2? They found an iso from Brazil but it plays NTSC. I'll pop that elf file right onto my memory card.
