Console exclusive character Labrys(image@SRK) Labrys is actually in the arcade version. Check spoiler below.
SPOILER (Highlight to View)
The whole story takes place in a TV world created by Labrys (or more precisely, her Shadow). She's the sister model of Aigis and she went missing, which is why the P3 characters are in the game-- they're there to retrive her.
Labrys has emotions, so she unconciously created a Shadow of herself. She basically hated having to fight against her fellow mates and having to be a killing machine. Her subcontious wanted the students in the game to see what that feels like, which is why her Shadow held the tournament.
The Kuma/Teddy in the General's outfit who's been featured in all the trailers is actually Labrys' Shadow in disguise. The real Kuma is having fun participating in the tournament, being his usual mindless self. The Rise who's doing the commentator is also fake: the real one is kept hostage in the announcer's room by General Kuma.
After the 7th or 8th stage, you fight a match against Labrys. When you beat her for a round, General Kuma shows up and turns to his/her true form: Labrys'es Shadow. Then you fight the Shadow and its dark Persona as the last boss.
In the ending, Labrys accepts her Shadow and gains her Persona (this part is done in hand-drawn anime). Then, it turns to a cutscene where you see your main character and Rise smiling at Labrys, saying that they'll all return home together. But suddenly, they notice something behind Labrys and look surprised. The screen fades out and goes into Staff Roll.
End of Spoiler

Day 1 impressions
Note: I haven't been following the beta tests. Stuff written below should probably be old for those who've been reading about the game.
Very fun game, it feels like a hodgepodge of a bunch of fighting game systems. It has KOF's AB roll, 3rdStrike's leap attack, Final Fight Invincible-but-HP-depleting attack, Burst attack, etc etc.. Seems so far to be ground combo based game, not aerials.
Smashing A button automatically does a chain combo > special> super. Mindlessly easy for beginniners in that sense, but it doesn't do that much damage, which sort of justifys things.
Naoto is hard to use. I'm sticking with Mitsuru. She has a 3rd/rare victory pose where she throws her coat at the opponent and wobbles a bit. Don't know the conditions to get it out.
Haven't tried Kanji yet, must play him.
They had a LOT of outsourced animators for the sprites, mostly overseas contractors apparently from China. I was wondering how they got the game done in such a short time span. The spritesworks are very good, and same with the backgrounds. I hope HQ vids make their way around soon.
