I mentioned this before a long ways off, but I'm headed to Hong Kong and Singapore for the first time over the next week and a half (also Tokyo although that's familiar enough by now).

Are there any particular video game pursuits anyone can recommend in both of those places? Or for that matter, any sights or pursuits that anyone thinks are worth doing? I know Hong Kong has a history of gray market games and outright bootlegs, although I'm not sure how relevant that still is, since I'm the world's oldest person and am therefore thinking of bootleg PS1 games from the mid-90's.

Anyway, I thought I'd ask again in case any of the Cafe's contingent of world travelers had some suggestions!

Singapore: the Merlion - not very big, not very good! The outdoor food courts - very big, very good! Basically, see if there is a vegan variation on hainan chicken and then eat it all the time, forever. You'll also think I'm crazy, but the Sentosa casino resort is loads of fun even if you never set foot in the casino itself. The aquarium rules and the food areas range from five star to delicious street food.

Or you could just summon ZEPY!?

Oho, I'll have to check out your suggestions! I've already looked, and Hainan chicken is eminently available in a vegan version!

I had no idea that Zepy is in Singapore!

Zepy is in singapore indeed! but he always tells me not to bother going to his shop.

there are some good arcades around, the thieves market is gone now, but there's some good food in the chinatown area. also you can take a bus to malaysia and see even weirder arcades in JB.

hong kong - just go to any of the markets and you'll see some weird stuff. there are some game shops further out in a place I don't remember the name of, but I think the internet should have information about most of this! the giant outdoor buddha was pretty nice.

uhhhh next time I go to HK I want to buy records, but that's about it :P

I'm sorry to barge in, but I couldn't help to see Malaysia and Singapore mentioned. This, I believe, is where the webmaster from the now defunct "Gouki's Page of Whatever" is from, lives, or where he has met with others.

This is a shot in the dark, but has anyone met him, know him, or seen him recently?

If not, I understand. It seemed like you guys were long time members here, and I know Guoki/Rolento (as he called himself) frequented here, also...

I'm actually really late here! But the one good arcade where all the fighting game fans used to gather in Singapore is already gone and turned into an electronics store. We play mobile games now
