Square's booth can be summed up with three words... yes, "Final Fantasy X". From plush dolls to Coke goodies, the fever was definitely there. Just check out the quality of these upcoming Coke extras, they're worth a few drinks.
A Speial TGS version of th
e game was playable at both the SCEI and Square booth. Two demos were playable, the "Virge Temple" and "Beside Island".
Virge temple (Left) is basically a solo with Tidus, with an interesting encounter of a mystery gang that speaks an unknown language, one of whom is a female that whipsers a some message to Tidus'es ear and surpirses him.. maybe it's a key to the game. The Beside Island (Right) featured the members of FFX, and allowed for full party play.
The features in FFX's battle screen are interesting. First up, the angle of battle changes often, not only during special effects but even on turns. The battle field is no longer constantly seen from the same angle. Only 3 character can fight on the screen at once like FF7 and 8, but they can be switched with others waiting in the back at any time- there's no more need to wait until the battle is finished, and switch to the options menu to reform the party. The bar on the right side of the screen indicates members who are in the team, or the back. Oh, and events happen during battles like in FF9, too.
The summon magic feels even cheaper than ever in FFX, as the summon monsters actally fight like a regular member now. They're way overpowering in both HP and Power than normal characters, at least from the demo. That's Shiva fighting in the picture on the left, and a new Summon Moster called Valfarei, which Yuna is cuddling on the right. A few more characters in FFX that were identified from the Demo were Kimali (middle character in left picture), Wakka (the guy with the Blitz ball in middle picture), and Lulu. That sexy lady Lulu always holds a Moogle in her arms, and uses it to attack the opponent. -H.Moriarty
