00-7-8.jpg Game system details on Capcom Vs SNK, have been revealed.

Capcom has released information regarding their upcoming release title for the Naomi and Dreamcast- Capcom Vs SNK.

Capcom Vs SNK utilizes a game engine similar to the Street Fighter series, in which there are no aerial raves or Button tapping chain combinations. Any set of characters can be chosen for a team- that is, SNK and Capcom characters can be chosen in the same team without any boundaries. (note: some limit in character teamups apply depending on strength: see Ratio system.)

There are 3 main points to the unique system adopted in Capcom Vs SNK-
1: The basic Game controls- which generally does not change in between the two grooves
2: The Groove system- which determines the use of the Energy and POW meter
3: The Ratio system- which determines the selectable characters in a team.

The Basic Controls
The Basic system of the game goes as follows-

The game uses the normal 8 direction controller
for walking, jumping and guarding.

For attacking, 4 buttons are used in the game:
Weak & Fierce Punch, Weak + Fierce Kick
Dashing, High Jump, and Rolling applies
to both Capcom and SNK Groove.

Dash- Forward x 2 or Back x 2
High Jump- Down, Up
Roll-through- Weak Punch + Kick

Throws can be done by holding left or right on the joystick, and pressing the fierce punch or kick button.
In addition, guard crush is implemented in the game, indicated to the player by a flashing energy bar border when the crush is about to happen.

In one player mode only, there is a grade ranking system called the "Groove point system". This system grades the player in real-time as the game goes on, with a panel (as shown above) located in between the POW meters of the lower screen. The grade rises depending on what action the player takes, such as KOing the opponent with a special move.

The Groove System- Capcom and SNK

The Groove system between the two modes- Capcom and SNK, only distinguishes the method in which the Life and POW meter will be used, and does not have effect to the controls or special moves to characters. The Groove is chosen before the character select screen, and cannot be changed afterwards.

Capcom Groove
Capcom Groove is similar to the Street Fighter Alpha series (And also to King Of Fighters 2000).
The power meter rises as the player attacks, and can stock up to three levels. The player can execute a favored level of super depending on the button combination. As Capcom Vs SNK only has 4 buttons, the button combination has a minor change from previous fighting games-

Lv1 super: Command + Weak Punch + Weak Kick
Lv2 super: Command + Fierce Punch + Fierce Kick
Lv3 super: Command + Weak Punch + Fierce Punch

SNK Groove

SNK Groove is similar to the "Extra" mode in the King of Fighters series.
In SNK Groove, the player can rise the power meter by holding Fierce Punch + Kick. When the power meter becomes full/Max, the meter will slowly decrease- during the limited time until the meter deplenishes itself, the player's character will inflict greater damage on the opponent, and can use a super attack.

If the opponent is defeated while the meter has not completely gone down, the next round will begin with the meter at the same position, and not completely deplenished. In addition, when the player's life is low, the life bar will blink and supers will be useable with no limit- when the power meter is Max'ed during this state, a Max super can be executed.

During the character select, all of the character profile images are those by Kinu Nishimura if in Capcom Groove, and Shinkirou if in SNK Groove. Likewise, the character icons on top of energy meters during the fight are also different upon the two artists, depending on the two Groove.

Choosing Characters- The Ratio System

Capcom Vs SNK adopts a Round system similar to the King Of Fighters- The player must chose a number of characters for a team, select the order in which the team members will be used prior to each set of battle, and fight rounds until one of the players lose all of their team members.

However, unlike the King OF Fighters in which the number of characters per team is fixed at 3, Capcom Vs SNK allows the player to create a team of up to 4 characters (minimum is 2). This is done without the loss of game balance through the newly adopted Ratio System.

In Capcom Vs SNK, characters are separated into 3 groups- Ratio 1, Ratio 2, or Ratio 3.
Characters are generally separated into different levels of Ratio depending on what type of status they have in other games- Sub character, Main Character, or Boss Character.

Depending on the Ratio level, the damage that the character can inflict, and the energy which the character loses upon getting hit differs- the higher the Ratio level, the more damage the character can inflict on opponents, and the less energy lost when the character gets attacked by the opponent.

The player is allowed to create a team which consists of 4 Ratio Levels in total- that is,

Image above- one Ratio 2 character and one Ratio 1 character is selected,
allowing room for one more Ratio 1 character to be selected for the team.

1- A combination of Four Ratio 1 characters
2- A combination of Two Ratio 2 characters
3- A combination of One Ratio 2 character + Two Ratio 1 characters
4- A combination of One Ratio 3 character + One Ratio 1 character

I.E:
A team of Kyo, Cammy, and King is Possible. (2 + 1 + 1)
A team of Rugal and Blanka is possible (3 + 1)
A team of Sagat and Terry, is not possible (3 + 2)

Ratio 1 Characters goes as follows:
