[ Link: Sega- AM2 ]
Sega has announced to begin their second beta testing of Virtua Fighter 4. This time, a new "Rankings Card" system will be the center of beta testing.

In the new machines for Virtua fighter 4, there will be a card slot. Users can purchase a rankings card (500 Yen during the beta testing) and insert it into the machines to have their play/rankings recorded. Unlike Dreamcast VMUs, the data is not stored in the card but saved in Sega's server, which the Virtua Fighter 4 machines are all connected to.

On the first game after the card is purchased, the user is prompted to select a character. From then on, the character will automatically be selected when the card is inserted. This also means that only one character can be registered, per card.

By using a cellular phone's i-mode(web browser), users can check their play data. Users can also register a ring/nick name for themselves, which will appear during their gameplay. There are more integrated options scheduled to be available in the complete product & services of Virtua Fighter 4.
