Square President Retaliates to Nintendo's Comments from Analyst Meeting

[ Mainichi Interactive | Article ]
Reported by Japanese journal site Mainichi Interactive, Square CEO Youichi Wada expressed retaliation against remarks made by Nintendo in their Analysts meeting on June 6th.

On Nintendo's remarks that Final Fantasy XI did not sell well being an online game, Square president Youichi commented that the income structure and market size of online games are different, and cannot be compared to traditional standalone software. Further on, Youichi commented that "Final Fantasy XI is opening up to a new market as a challenging pioneer. [We] would hope that Nintendo would even support us on the issue." "People who are currently playing Final Fantasy XI are satisfied, but people who haven't played would have misunderstandings [from Nintendo's comments]."

Youichi also commented that although Nintendo's (former) president Hiroshi Yamauchi called Square's game for Nintendo as "Final Fantasy", its title is not officially decided on yet.

Youichi's comments were made on the same day as Nintendo's meeting.
